How i made the music video analysis

I decided with my music video analysis of "Toxic" by Britney Spears that i wanted to review the video in a speaking format as i wanted to try something different. I felt reading a long essay about the music video wouldn't be as interesting and engaging and i hoped a podcast format would achieve something closer to that. i recorded it on audacity, as i already had it on my computer. After this i converted it to mp3 format, and uploaded it onto soundcloud. Soundcloud is a popular music sharing website used by thousands of people to get their music out on the web and is rapidly overtaking myspace as the internets main music sharing site for new, unsigned artists. I used this website as it is simple and easy to understand, would upload it all as one file and allowed me to broaden my use of technology in this media product. Hopefully it will help me achieve a more interactive and engaging review of "Toxic".

The evaluation of the evaluation!

We decided when coming to the evaluation that we felt it would be best to do them seperatly. We thought that having seperate evaluations would allow everyone to say what they want. Rather than everyone sharing the answers among eachother, we could all say how we felt the process went and how we performed individualy. we also felt there was more freedom for us to say as much as we wanted without feeling like others in the group were ready to step bin weith thier opinions.

I recored mine on my computers youcam programme before transfering it to windows movie maker to be made into the final film. I first tried Vimeo but this took too long to upload and proved a waste of time. I instead redid the video inot two parts and uploaded them onto youtube as this was the only way i could fit it onto youtube.

Finally we have reached an end!

Evaluating the project!!!

We decided to do separate evaluation videos to make individual comments and present them on the website that Tom created. This seemed to be the most effective way to present our evaluations to the markers as it was visually effective whilst we were making our points individually. We decided to do our evaluations one by one so that as a group the ideas we had in our evaluations would be over a wide span rather than feeding off each other and developing each others ideas. We had to develop the ideas fully ourselves which seemed much more effective in helping us to fully understand the music video we created and the use of media in our project.

Our Evaluations!

I have created a website whereby you can view our evaluations. This allows for easier access to our videos and you can see all of our individual views on our media product. The website is easily layed out with the links on the bottom. Click on the image below to visit our website!

Making the evaluation

We wanted to present our evaluation in a creative way which would catch the viewers attention, we also wanted to be able to allow each member of the group their fair share in being able to answer the question to the extent that they could. This led to the idea of creating our evaluations individually instead of having a group evaluation where comments would be repeated and each member may not have the opportunity to comment equally. Also from previous experience we realised that this would most likely be something that would allow each one of us to receive the most amount of marks.
Now we just had to decide in what from we would present our evaluations. Due to the creation of our band website we thought our experience with wix would allow us to create a website dedicated to the evaluations. This idea is a great media technology to use and allows us to reach many people.
We individually filmed our evaluations and brought them together edited them and uploaded them.

The finished digipack Review

I finally managed to finish the digipack, and like to introduce the next EP by The Motion... E:Motion!!!

To start with the name i got this idea from our band and through it played well the band name. Having it spelt like this can give many new meanings as it reads 'emotion' which adds a hint to the albums themes, but the use of E: gives it links to the Internet e.g E-Mail.

The album cover of which I'd originally posted had criticisms in feedback of 'she looks like a terrorist' and 'there needs to be something on the screen'. These points were taken on board, and we looked at photoshopping in an image to make the shot look more enigmatic and less like a terrorist plotting. Our teacher recommended Storm Thorgerson, a famous artist who has designed album covers for Pink Floyd, Muse and Biffy Clyro. We used an image of his and placed this into the computer screen and the album cover was complete! Everyone agreed it looked much better with the change in computer image. I also moved around some of the objects on the desk, and added cans of energy drink, which give connotations of someone who commits there life to being on the computer, so much that they need these drinks to keep awake.

The back of the album, an msn conversation, contrasted well with the front cover and is an interesting take on modern track listings. We diliberatly chose song titles to fit in with a theme of relationships This part was received well and no changes were necessary.

The actual CD was intended to be a simple black CD on a white background as we felt the use of this simple contrast was eye catching. We eventually changed this as feedback from people in our class suggested reversing the colours looked better. We kept the same font through out as it keeps the continuity.

We wanted a basic lyrics page, as we wanted them to be seay to read. We decided to reverse on to the other side of the page, for the simple reason of wanting something that looked a little different but not too outlandish

We added a couple of band pictures in to add recognition for the band. We chose a simple slightly dreary background in orderto keep with our basic theme and to make the band seem more relatable to fans, as it is a typical ordinary brick wall. This connotates that they are a typical ordinary band that people can relate to. We chose to add a singular photo of Tom, as he is the one we want people to recognise with the most. The fact we took the photo from a far distance shows he is alone and isolated, and as he is staring off camera, makes it looks he is looking for someone, and connotates that he maybe has been stood up. This again is done so that people who have been in that situation can relate to Tom and the band. It also hints as to what the album is about and links in well with the re.st of our media product
Another great success by me!!!
